Online Fitness Programs Can Have Great Benefits

If you’re currently overweight, and this seems to be the case more often than not with America being the fattest country on the planet right now, than online fitness training programs are the best bet for you at the beginning of your journey back to health and fitness. Over time, however, you’re going to want to get involved with real world activities that test your body more than any fitness program could.People who run regularly, will feel twice as sore after playing a few pick-up games of basketball if they don’t play basketball often. How can this be? Basketball is mainly running, so why would that be any different than jogging? There are a slew of reasons why this soreness would occur:1) Jogging has you running straight ahead, that’s it. In basketball, you have to be able to stop on a dime, change direction in a nanosecond and force your limbs to twist and bend into un-natural positions2) Basketball has become a contact sport, even though purists would disagree. You have to “body” guys down low so you can maintain your position when rebounding the basketball.3) Constant jumping on an unforgiving surface like concrete will create sorenessAnd that’s just basketball, how about all the other sports and activities out there? Fitness programs are made to get your body “able” to play any and all sports, and it’s why I feel strongly about people taking extra care to select a program they feel makes the most sense for them, instead of picking the first exercise program they come across online. If you choose a program that pushes you too hard, too early you run the risks of either burning out and quitting the program altogether or injuring yourself.An injury is the death knell when trying to regain your health and fitness. People who are overweight, nine times out of ten, are overweight for a reason. They have not developed the mind/body capacity to eat correctly and workout regularly, and an injury can and has derailed many people with good intentions. Once an injury takes place, it subconsciously sets a bar in your head that you may fear climbing over once you’ve healed. It’s hard enough getting into a health and fitness routine as it is without having to worry about psychological issues.Working on your body hard in the early portion of your program can work for you or against you, it’s literally 50/50. From my experience, those who were once athletes or in shape at some point in their life, and let themselves slip into an unhealthy state, tend to respond better to extreme workouts early on in a program. The rest who may have never worked out a day in their lives, however, tend to crash and burn. In the end, it’s all up to you and what you feel you are capable of. I believe anyone can do anything they set their minds to, but experience has shown me that a “step-by-step” approach has a higher percentage of success and is usually the safest way to go.Online fitness training programs have several benefits, and can have even more when you select the right one for you. The first benefit is not having to pay a personal trainer a bunch of money to teach you stuff that may or may not be in your best interests. Not to shine a bad light on personal fitness trainers, but I’ve seen the qualifications needed to become a “certified trainer” and believe me – it isn’t all that it’s made out to be. I’ve also known quite a few personal trainers, and it boggles me how much of the information they know is either outdated or just purely anecdotal.When you give yourself over to a trainer, whether it’s online or in the real world, you want to know that what they teach and believe in is backed up with some kind of scientific data. Now does science mean that it’s correct? Absolutely not, scientists are wrong more times than they’re right but at least they’re working off of the facts they have available at the time. What you do not want is someone who gives you a program to use that they “feel” will work for you – not good.Another benefit is having the “trainer” or program available to you wherever you are. With smart phones and iPads, net books and laptops, the net is available to many now, and in the next 10 years the net will be available to everyone. Why wait til you see your trainer at the gym and not work out for a few days if you’re away from home, when you can pop on your online device and plug into your program? Having access to your health/fitness program whenever you need it is vitally important, especially when you’re first starting out.One more benefit is being able to learn at your own pace. When you’re with a real person, you pay by the hour so you literally squeeze as much in as possible. Not really the best way to learn if you ask me. Taking time to fully understand what it is you’re doing will allow you to let that information sink into your knowledge base, essentially rewiring your mind the more times you go over the information – as the old maxim goes, “repetition is the mother of skill.” And having the ability to go over the material again and again is invaluable when you’re first starting out.Online training programs are here to stay, so it’s going to take some extra effort trying to make your way through the nonsense and the experts. When you do, however, you will find that they are one of the best ways to get started back on the road to health and fitness. Just remember, exercise programs are here to get you ready for real world activities like sports, hiking, rock climbing, etc. We don’t workout just to have a nice looking body, although the newsstand magazines will have you believing otherwise. Find a program that works for you, get into the training 100%, and get busy making yourself healthy, fit and whole – good luck.
